Lifespan of a Bluejay.

Lifespan of a Bluejay.

🪺 + 🥚 + 🐦

Confession, I find bluejays to be the most interesting animals. (Whatever you do, do not tell Go-Go 🐈.)  And, if you guessed because they are so symbolic, you guessed correctly (and let’s be friends).

The Lifespan of a Bluejay.

When preparing their nest, the male bluejay typically gathers the materials needed while the female builds the nest (22). When the female lays her eggs, she will produce 2-7 eggs per clutch (bird language for how many eggs laid at a time). During this time, the male bluejay will fly from the nest to gather food to deliver to momma bluejay and baby bluejays (how chivalrous, am I right?). The momma bluejay will use the law of attraction to keep her babies close. If a baby bluejay veers from the nest, he will only be fed if he comes to her (momma bluejay just gets it). Around one month, the baby bluejays are ready to leave their nest (22). They head off to gather acorns (their favorite food) to return to the nest, fly freely to experience life, or find a mate and start the cycle over again.

What Do They Represent?

The bluejay represents so many things. For now, I am sticking to the three I think may be the most relevant to us (we can edit later if needed 😉).

One. Ascension.

Bluejyas, like many birds, can be seen as symbols of intuition and ascension to higher states of consciousness (20). Just as they soar through the sky experiencing freedom, independence, and a feeling of rising, we too experience a feeling of rising, independence, and freedom as we ascend spiritually. Now, this does not mean that we are completely independent. Just as the bluejays will fly independently or in a flock, we too must navigate and find balance as to when to experience life independently and when to experience life with the collective.

Two. Strength of Character.

Because of the bluejay’s strength, confidence, intelligence, and tenacity, it can be viewed as a bird of strong character (20). The bluejay rarely takes no for an answer. She perseveres, knowing that her full potential will one day be reached. The bluejay will often mate for life and establish close family bonds (22). These character traits teach us so much: courage to face what seems scary, dignity to serve as a reminder that you are worthy of all you desire, and perseverance to never give up on your dreams.

Three. Ability to Adapt.

When danger, opposition, or a potential threat arises, the bluejay does not back down. In fact, it takes the opposite approach. She will adapt to the situation around her to overcome the adversity. She flies through the storm. She portrays to us that when life does not go as planned, one should adapt in order to realign rather than retreat all together and fall victim.

Why Does it Matter?

(This is my favorite part!) What does all of this have to do with you and with Alice-Hilton? So glad you made it this far to find out!

The lifespan of a bluejay teaches us the importance of connection, strong family bonds, and the law of attraction. It demonstrates that there is strength in numbers and that being together with the group that loves, nurtures, and provides for you is crucial for adequate growth and development no matter what phase you are in in life. It reveals that attempting to live life on your own is the wrong way. So, whenever you see a shade of blue, a picture of a bluejay, or the nest emoji around here, you can be sure we are referring to the life of the bluejay. It is our reminder to you to keep ascending, remain true to your character, and seek to adapt when life is hitting you hard. Fly high, because you’re doing great.

Now, I want you to picture this. You finally made it. You finished the last page of the book you are writing. You opened the doors to your brick and mortar bakery. Or, you are opening the door to your first patient room as a newly graduated D.O.

This time last year, the book was just an idea in your head as you thought to yourself, “Me? Write a book? Yeah, right!” The bake shop was not even close to reach because how could a bake shop offer stock options?  And, the idea of walking across the stage to get your diploma seemed so far away.

Today, you smell the fresh print pages of your book. You hear the jingle of the keys that will unlock the doors to the bakery. And, you feel the warmth of the freshly ironed white coat that you will proudly wear as D.O.

You take a deep breath as you realize that you are on the other side of where you started. Like the bluejay, you persevered through the late nights to get here. You adapted during the challenges and you overcame them with grace.

You feel proud, grateful, and unstoppable. All because you decided you were ready for the change.
